Lake Ashi :
We are located lakeside Ashi.
Lake Ashi was formed in Hakone caldera about 400 thousand years ago. Lake Ashi is elongated and 20km around. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mt.Fuji from Lake Ashi.
Hakone shrine :
5 minute walk from Gakueirou Matsuzakaya

Built in 757, Hakone shrine has a long and distinguished history, and have been worshipped not only in Hakone but also whole of Japan. At the top of “Komagatake” Mt. Koma, there is the branch shrine and there are some other shrines – Kuzuryu shrine, Soga shrine etc, inside of the shrine. And also there are gyms for Japanese traditional martial arts and a museum inside of the shrine.
"Hakone Sugi Namiki" Avenue with Japanese cedar trees :
5 minute walk from Gakueirou Matsuzakaya
You can walk the stone paved road with dense cedars feeling the travelers’ footsteps of Edo period.
Monument of Engelbert Kaempfer and Cyril Montague Bernie :
7 minute walk from Gakueirou Matsuzakaya
Kaempfer who visited Japan in Edo period and introduce Japanese rich natural environment to western world, and Birnie who deeply loved Hakone and tried to hand the rich natural environment in Hakone down to posterity. In Hakone, we honor their works and hold an annual festival. We, Gakueirou Matsuzakaya, are deeply related to “Bernie-san” and his favorite cupboard is exhibited in our halway. Also we have a rubbed copy of this monument in our hallway to show.
Onshi-Hakone-Koen Park :
20 minute walk from Gakueirou Matsuzakaya
Scenery of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji from observatory is really distinguished. You can see a beautiful and majestic view of the double Fuji in the early sunny morning.
"Hakone Sekisho" Hakone Checkpoint :
25 minute walk from Gakueirou Matsuzakaya
Hakone Checkpoint founded in 1619 was a significant strategic point in Edo period. You can see how the checkpoint and old Hakone were.
TAMAMURA TOYOO LIFE ART MUSEUM and La Terrazza :
right next to Gakueirou Matsuzakaya
Opened in 2007 and exhibits “Life art” which are depicted by Japanese famous writer Mr. Tamamura who is active in various fields. It will be attractive to have a tasty time at Italian Pizzeria “La Terrazza” next to the museum.
Narukawa Art Museum :
5 minute walk from Gakueirou Matsuzakaya
Narukawa Art Museum is a private museum which has a lot of masterpieces of “nihonga” Japanese-style paintings. It has a beautiful view of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji.
